dc.description.abstract The present volume deals with the iTibeto-Burman languages of India. For convenience it has been divided into three parts, viz. :— Part I, Tibeto-Burman languages of Tibet, the Himalayas, and North Assam. Part II, the Bodo, Naga, and 3£achin groups. Part III, the Kuki-Chin and Burma groups. , • The materials for Part I were originally entrusted to Professor Conrady of Leipzig. .After he had analysed part of the materials, but before hp had tlirown the resiilts into a connected fotm, he was compelled to abandon the task by a, call to other duties. •The materials and his notes were then made over to my Assistant, Br.; Sten Konow of, Christiania, Norway, who went over the whole work again and prepared the part in the form in which it is now presented to the public. , Dr. Konow has also prepared the Kachin section of Part II, and the whole pf Part III. Dr. Konow has been allowed, complete liberty for displaying individuality of treatment, and the volumes prepared by him are entirely his Work. I have, however, no hesitation in accepting ljis views, and, as Editor of the entire series of volumes of the Linguistic Survey of India, I accept full responsibility for all statements contained in them. en_US
